New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A full Snow Moon will be visible in the sky on Sunday. It will be one of the biggest full moon of 2020. A Snow Moon is the name given to the full moon that falls in the month of February because of heavy snow in North America. The full moon is expected to be seen by Monday morning. A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to earth. They can cause strong ocean tides and weather phenomena.

Across Europe and North America, full moon used to track months and seasons for thousands of years. Each cycle brings a seasonal change. In the lunar calendar, names were given to each month’s Moon.

As per experts, this month's moon will be one of the biggest moon of this year and will look large when rising and setting. This is also the first full moon during the Chinese New Year. The festival marks the gathering of 1250 Buddhist followers to hear a famous sermon by Buddha.

According to NASA, the moon will be fullest at 2.33 am ET, when it will be 1.03 pm in India. It will remain visible all night long, finally retiring about sunrise Sunday. Visibility is subject to lear weather.

The phenomenon can be viewed across North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

As per NASA, The Moon will appear full centered around this time, till Monday morning, making this a full Moon weekend.

In India, the snow moon is celebrated in the form of Magha Purnima. Devotees on this day take bath in the river Ganges and perform rituals.

Although you will miss watching the first supermoon of this day as it will appear during the day, you can get it images online.

The next real ‘supermoon’ will show up on March 9.
