New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Melbourne Stars' skipper Marcus Stoinis on Sunday became the highest run-getter in Big Bash League (BBL). The 30-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 147 runs-- off just 79 balls including 13 fours and 8 sixes-- against Sydney Sixers to surpass D'Arcy Short, who previously held the record with 122* runs. He thrashed another record with the help of Hilton Cartwright as they both formed a 207-run partnership, highest-ever in the tournament.

Soon after his blistering knock, his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals was quick to take note of the right-hander's heroics and tweeted: "Absolutely outrageous! Marcus Stoinis finishes with an unbeaten 147 off 79 balls, the highest ever individual score in BBL history."

Stoinis also leads the charts for leading run-getters in this year's edition of BBL after amassing 331 runs from eight innings, averaging over 55.

Hilton Cartwright also scored 59 runs before Tom Curran gold hold off him in the final over of the innings. Stoinis and Cartwright's brilliant partnership helped Melbourne Stars put up a total of 219 runs on the scoreboard.

In reply, Sydney Sixers scored 175/7 in 20 overs. 

Earlier in the day, Adelaide Strikers had defeated Melbourne Renegades by 63 runs in BBL. Jonathan Wells was the top-scorer of the match. He scored 58 to help Strikers score 173 runs after the completion of 20 over. Melbourne Renegades were all out on 110 runs. Peter Siddle scalped three wickets while Rashid Khan and Travis Head picked two wickets each.
