Guwahati | Jagran Sports Desk: Fans on Sunday were left disappointed after the first T20 International between India and Sri Lanka got washed out due to rain. It started to rain after Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and toss elected to field first. The showers lasted for more than hour.
Once the rain stopped, the groundsmen worked for two hours. They used steam irons, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and steam rollers to make the pitch and the outfield suitable for play. Their efforts, however, went in vain after the umpire shortly before 10.00 pm said that “no play is possible due to the wet patches on the field.”
This left the fans hugely disappointed as they expected a full match to happen. However, they were amused by the fact the groundsmen used steam irons, vacuum cleaners, hairdryers and steam rollers to match the pitch suitable for play. Many of them took it to social media to express their amusement. Here are a few reactions:

Poor drainage facility in the stadium should be questioned. @BCCI should focus on these issues of ensuring a proper match. #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/lpGcpsVngW

Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first on a pitch that looked suitable for chasing. After winning the toss, Kohli said, “We're gonna bowl first. We haven't played here in a while. The last time we played here, we chased well. The game we played prior to that against Australia, they chased well too. The track does play differently in the second half as compared to the first part. It's a good thing actually, there isn't too much of a difference in conditions, except that the track settles down better later on with the wet ball.”
Now the two teams would face each other in the second T20I in Indore on January while the final game is scheduled to be held in Pune on January 10.
