New Delhi | Jagran Business Desk: San Francisco-based ride hailing major Uber on Tuesday launched its public transport service in the national capital in collaboration with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), making it the ninth city globally and the first in Asia to have the feature.
With this feature, Uber users in Delhi would be able to use the public transport option that will appear on the app. Once the users use this option, Uber will show the best three routes for using a metro or bus in the city.
Uber will also show end-to-end directions from point A to point B. The service has already been rolled out to Uber users at 210 stations — DMRC has 274 stations — across the national capital.
“The new initiative, which integrates public transport with mobility operator like Uber, will certainly boost first- and last-mile connectivity solutions for around six million passenger journeys taken on the Metro system. We have provided several solutions to improve last-mile connectivity,” said DMRC managing director Mangu Singh.
"DMRC has partnered with on-demand mobility operators like Uber to enhance their commuting experience with seamless last mile connectivity," he said.
Riders will see "Public Transport" as an option alongside UberGo, Premier and Pool after opening the Uber app and entering a destination.
Upon selecting the public transport feature, riders will be able to see the fastest and cheapest routes, real-time schedules, as well as departure time for public transportation, including Metro and buses and walking directions, to and from nearby Metro stations and bus stops.
Singh said that some space will be provided at metro stations for Uber to set up its pick-up and drop-off zones. At present, such a facility is only available at three stations -- Rajiv Chowk, Dwarka Sector 21 and Sikanderpur.
