New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Amid rising cases of coronavirus cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his media address regarding extension of lockdown period on Tuesday requested business not to lay off its employees and stand with them during this critical times.
The tourism industry is currently the worst affected areas. Several carriers like GoAir and SpiceJet have already announced pay cuts between 30 to 50 per cent. Last month several state governments, including Telangana announced that several state government employees will be paid 50 per cent less than their basic salary.
Recently FabHotel laid off its 80 employees, while an IT firm based in Hyderabad, Techolution laid off at least 20 workers. Meanwhile, media organisations like The Times of India and News Nation also laid off some of their employees.
Several ministers including the President and Prime Minister and MPs are giving up to 30 per cent of their salaries to the PM CARES.
The Prime Minister also announced that the current lockdown will be extended till May 3, saying it is very necessary to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
In a televised address to the nation, PM Modi said implementation of the lockdown will be strictly ensured in the coming days to ensure that the virus does not spread to new areas.
Some relaxations may be allowed after April 20 in places where there is no hotspot, he added.
PM said that India has managed to contain the spread of COVID-19 well due to its holistic approach in dealing with the crisis and sacrifices made by people of the country in the fight produced positive results.
He went on to say that India received huge benefits from the 21-day lockdown in checking the pandemic and added that the country has dealt with the situation better with limited resources.
